Egg Nog French Toast with Brioche
Egg Nog French Toast with Brioche is a festive, cozy breakfast that transforms simple ingredients into something luxurious. Thick slices of buttery brioche are soaked in a rich custard made from creamy Costco egg nog, warm cinnamon, and vanilla. When seared in butter, each slice develops a crisp, golden exterior while the inside stays soft, custardy, and delicately sweet. Perfect for holiday mornings, brunch gatherings, or a winter weekend treat, this French toast pairs beautifully with maple syrup, powdered sugar, whipped cream, or a sprinkle of fresh nutmeg. It’s simple, indulgent, and captures the magic of the season in every bite.
Ingredients
French Toast
- 4 thick slices brioche bread (preferably day-old)
- 1 cup Costco egg nog
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
- 2 tablespoons butter or oil (for cooking)
Optional Toppings
- Maple syrup
- Powdered sugar
- Whipped cream
- Fresh berries or sprinkle of nutmeg
Instructions
-
Prepare the custard
In a shallow bowl or baking dish, whisk together the 1 cup Costco egg nog, 2 large eggs, 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon, and the 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract (if using) until fully combined.
-
Soak the brioche
Dip each of the 4 thick slices brioche into the custard mixture, allowing each slice to soak for 20–30 seconds per side depending on the thickness of the bread.
Day-old brioche absorbs the custard without becoming soggy.
-
Heat the pan
Heat a skillet or griddle over medium heat and melt about 1 tablespoon of the 2 tablespoons butter or oil.
-
Cook the French toast
Place the soaked brioche slices onto the heated skillet. Cook each slice for 2–3 minutes on each side, using the remaining butter or oil as needed, until golden brown and lightly crisp on the edges.
-
Serve
Stack the cooked slices and top with maple syrup, powdered sugar, whipped cream, fresh berries, or a sprinkle of nutmeg.
Notes
- Keep finished slices warm in a 200°F oven while cooking the remaining slices.
- For extra holiday flavor, grate fresh nutmeg over the top.
- Brioche, challah, or thick Texas toast all make excellent alternatives.
